Recent Works.

Glazed over.

First painting in a while I feel is up to blog quality. I have started learning how to glaze oil paint properly. I am really liking the technique, but hating the amount of time it takes. I also really miss all the brush stroke texture and the thickness of the paint in alla-prima style. I am fighting every urge to lay on some thick paint and go for it, seriously it's hard to do! I do however slightly enjoy the perspective this gives me on the slowing down and really delving into a process. I think I am going to start a couple of this close up portraits and try to flush out this technique a little bit.

Sunday Painting

During Conference. Almost finished it, still needs a tree and then all the fun highlights and to make it more interesting. But not too bad of a start.

Studying.

Just a small painting in process, but in oil. Its been a while since I painted in oil, so I'm still refreshing myself on it. I miss the insanely fast drying time of acrylic, but you just cannot replicate the colors and light absorption of oil paint. The more I work on the piece the better the colors look, I starting to punch myself for moving away from oils, but at the same time I want to punch oil paint for never drying when I want it to.
