Geisha

I'm still struggling with a background for this, I have started to paint a cherry blossom tree but it doesn't really fit with the design of her kimono, so I still working on it I think

In Addition

I watched this movie recently and all I have to say is wow. I cannot remember a time that I was so tense about a conclusion of a movie. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, it's a really good sci-fi movie, and I know that is an oxymoron but this one is worth checking out.

Fear of Girls

I have currently regressed back into a new state of a nerd. I have been hitting up the comic shops for new comics and it is awesome, I am almost a regular. I'm so excited, it's like going into a local diner and the owner sees you and says "the regular?" Oh I can't wait.

James at Ellis Island

This is Craig and I in New York with James, doing what we do best, punching him in the Cleveland steamer port.

This is another illustration that I am working on

I have been slacking on it though hardcore, and working on other projects. This is my like take on the frog prince.

I haven't posted in a while

So I will drop a bomb on you like thriller did in the eighties. That last line may or may not be a lie. I just finished up mid-terms and I'm pretty satisfied, so that is why Ye Olde Blog hasn't been updated. I will give you something to drool about though. This is an Illustration by Sam Weber, who I ran across up here in the society of illustrators show on campus.
It is Abraham and Isaac, well Sam's take on it, I have to say I am drawn to it hardcore for some reason. I love love love it. like in the way Darren enjoys dark clothing and evanescence.

My Hero tstout

This is something I did this morning, after I attempted to make some stuff in the ceramics lab, I hate ceramics with a passion, it is frustrating. This is after the style of one of my favorite illustrators, tyler stout.

Blue dude

I saw this guy somewhere on itsnicethat.com and during the down time in class this morning i drew a version of it. It makes me think of 30rock, when Tracy Morgen is being hounded by "that blue dude"

This is what I turned in, and I didn't get yelled at, so I was pretty jazzed about that.

What I am up too.

I am working on this for class, I hope it will be done tonight, but I like where this one is going a lot more than the ladybug. Digital illustration is awesome and I heart it, but it is kind of hard for me, I am still looking for that gem of a personal style.

Hotel Chevalier

I hope all you Wes ANDERSON fans out there, headed over to iTunes and downloaded or at least watched the 13 minute prequel to "The Darjeeling Limited." The prequel is called the "Hotel Chevalier," it is a little scandalous, but I really enjoyed it, mostly because I love love love the shots in this movie, The Darjeeling Limited is not opening up here in Idaho Falls, as far as I know. I have my fingers crossed for the friends of film at the Center Twin. Anywho, the hotel Chevalier stars Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman, and it is awkward and awesome. Check it out when you get a chance, but a warning to all those with the tiny adults, it has been rated "explicit" by the iTunes.

First digital painting exercise

This was for my digital illustration class, our first assignment, I struggled with it. It was frustrating but I am learning a lot in that class so I can't really complain.

I know, I know

Rollans showed me this Halo 3 commercial and I like it so much, I am going to post the other video game commercial that I enjoyed, I know it is super nerdy. I like to think that the video game industry is trying to improve their standards of advertising, rather than just blood and guts and top heavy women. The Halo 3 one is my favorite I can't really explain it, it invokes an emotion in me that I cannot explain.

Another Poster.

Awesome

TStout posted this on his website, well worth a look see.

Question

I know this one strays from the time tested model of posting cool stuff found on the interweb, but I am just curious to what people think.

I pose to you a question, one that I have been thinking a little about lately. What makes you an adult, do you consider yourself to be an adult?

I don't for one second think that I am a "grown up" I have the ability to do basically anything (except rent a car). Society has given me the "right" to engage in anything I want to, whether that be to destroy or to build up. I guess what I am trying to say is that I am allowed to make every decision in my life from this point on, but do i? Is that what makes someone mature, is the ability to make decisions make you an adult? I'm not sure, just kind of wondering.

Just to keep my reputation here is a sweet picture.

Juno

I saw this over at "you ain't no picasso's" blog, thought I would steal it and post it as something I found on the interweb. It has an all-star cast, I think it is going to be pretty good, maybe a rental because it feels awkward even when you are watching the trailer, but when you say the word awkward, Michael Cera's head pops up.

A little late, but worth it

I know everyone has heard of "Flight of the Conchords" by now, but I saw this video today for the first time, and this post is mostly for Mike.

The Original poster for Comic Frenzy

Well, this is the original poster.

P.S I didn't make this poster, I just had it pointed out to me that someone thought I did, I made the other one, this is the poster they were going to use. They didn't like it so James got on the horn and asked me to make one, which is the other one.

learning new stuff, and getting sucked into making posters

James called me up last night, and forced me into some sort of slave labor ring, also know as comic frenzy. So i got to make a poster super fast, and I hope it doesn't make the people who come to my websites eyes melt. I think it turned out pretty cool, in my defense it was a rush job so I would have liked to spend a buttload more time on it, so hopefully I will be able to do some more this semester.

Congrats to 30 Rock

For winning the emmy for best comedy, unless I misread that. Which I am prone to do on occasion. I am like 78% sure though it won, and if it didn't, it really should have. If you have not glued yourself to the 2 hour block of thursday night on NBC, you probably have better things to do, or just don't really enjoy watching television. Now that, that is on the table, by not watching television you are single handedly destroying an American institution and a common stereotype, the one where all Americans are illiterate and only watch television, which is true.

The Movie of Choice

This summer I partook of the "fruits of the devil" ( when you read that you must read it like Mike Myers) I went and throughly enjoyed Judd Apatow's "Superbad" and I will tell you that about halfway through the movie I was literally tired of laughing. I seriously wished there was a dumb part of that movie, just so I could have a breather at some point, with this review I will put a disclaimer on this movie, that it was by far the raunchiest, dirtiest, and filthiest movie I have ever seen in my life. For those who know me well enough you know that I have a mouth that would make a sailor cringe and the mind to go with it, but in watching this movie it was like my mind being played out on the big screen and I say that with a bit of hesitation, because I could not even give my dirty mind the credit of some of the things that were thought up in this movie. A side note though, I read that the script and concept for this movie is over 10 years old, that Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen updated it. Even by today's standards this movie is pushing the limit, I can't imagine this being released 10 years ago, but then again wasn't there a person named "Boner" on growing pains or something.

Either way if you have the guts and the sick and twisted humor I suggest you check it out. If not do check out, "Be kind, Rewind" that looks awesome.

another one that I would pay 8.95 to see

I love love love Mos Def, I think he is fantastic, and I think this movie is going to be fantastic, mostly because Michel Gondry is attached and I love just taking in his movies.

I am BACK with a movie I want to see.

I AM BACK SUCKAS!

and so my first post is about a movie I am really excited about. This movie really looks awesome. I hope it is as good as it looks, and yeah I saw the notebook this summer and all I have to say about that is Ryan Gosling looks pretty sweet when he is rocking a beard, not as sweet as Michael Caine in the original "Alfie," but close.

Booo Shipping

I am shipping my computer home for the break, because it is basically one of my lungs, I would die with out it. I am afraid though, I hate shipping important things, this fear is based on the fact that I personally know some of the people who work at the postal service, and lets just say that in 20 years I will be able to find them. So wish this sexy mac the best, because it is about to be manhandled by the linebackers of your highschool, the alcoholics of your senior prom, and the box humpers of the U.S.

Songs for Golden Summer

I got Dylan's Mix today in the post. I am listening to it while I get ready for my finals, and I will say listening to it has brought a genuine smile to my face, thanks! Even if this post comes off less than heterosexual, what evs I am digging the music. I am starting to put together my contribution. Mine might be a little more brooding and emo, maybe even a little Fem core, we will see.

That American Idol Guy

Has anyone heard anything about that Paolo nutterbutter guy from american idol, I saw a commercial promoting his CD and I kind of dug his voice, am I gay? you tell me, yes I am going to let the public decide. I am just curious if I can pawn this semi interest on someone else's opinion if I get caught listening to it alone in my room.

For Valerie, from Mike

http://indianspencer.blogspot.com/2007/07/owned-by-grafiti.html

these are amazing, people improving graffiti.
One of my favorites

I like the movie 300

cause I am a nerd, and I enjoy most of frank miller's work. I didn't however know that this movie was based on an actual battle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae

Very cool stuff, I can only hope that eventually wikipedia stumbles upon the historic documents I like to call "Star Wars." I know that has got to be true also. On that note I will tell you that Mike's older brother Joe used to tell him that "The Lord of the Rings" was ancient text that J.R.R. Tolkien found and translated. So I am hoping the History Channel gets on that soon.

I am pretty sure 300 does for anyone who is Greek, what the movie Roadhouse does for homosexuals and bouncers, and gay bouncers, which brings up another question, do gay bars have bouncers?

The cinematography of this movie is fantastic, much like Sin City, but I think the fact that the storyboard can be taken almost directly from the comic books. Do you think these movies have any large impact on the comic industry or do you think the comic industry's impact on the movie industry is greater?

I am just asking questions so when I get home from skipping devotional I will have something to read, I look at my blog comments more than I look at my email.

Also below is the "PG" version of 300, very awesome to anyone who has seen 300.

oh I know, Jon Stewart and the daily show equals ha-ha, but I cannot begin to tell you the amount of respect I get watching these interviews of Jon Stewart, something hits me when I watch and really listen to what he is saying, and the points he brings up. I honestly believe what he is doing is having an extremely profound effect on society and maybe it might bleed its way into out political system. I am by no means an expert on any forms of our government, up until last week I thought there were only 49 states, Delaware really shouldn't count. I think he is an amazing individual and I really do enjoy listening to his thoughts on the current state of things.

is this guy any good?

I was going through my hero Darren's Blog, I was listening to the Cover songs, and i am not a fan of Oasis but I like the cover by that Ryan Adams guy. My question is, is he any good or it he a champagne supernova? (oh yeah I am so smart)

Vitamin Water

Oh how I hate, HATE this commercials and ads, this is one of those times where the ad campaign is going to make me not buy the product. I am all for healthy drinks and that business but I am not for bad advertising. I wish I could shoot a beanbag from an 18th century french cannon right into their crotch. I can't think of any other bad campaigns if you have any tell me and I will also physically attack them too, to the extent Jessica Fletcher will not be able to solve it.

Just Amazing

Possibly the most amazing story I have ever heard, I saw it the other night on Vh1, yes I know, but hold the stones for 1 second. This guy started an add on craigslist.com for a trade of a red paper clip. which he traded for a fish pen, which he traded for a doorknob and so on. Eventually he ended up with a HOUSE a year later! Over the course of 1 year and like 15 trades he has his own house! amazing

The Legend of Bagger Vance

I finished the book it was fantastic, much better than the movie in my opinion. Although I did not understand all of the golf terminology in the book, but that stuff wasn't too important, the story makes me wish it was a true story, I mean it has elements of truth like Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen playing that day, the Junah character is fictional, but the whole time I was reading the book I was wishing he wasn't. I won't go into all the messages that are found in the book, but it was really amazing, I walked away from this book floored, it blew me away, I absolutely loved it, I would recommend it to anyone, there are a lot of ideas in this book that are extremely close to the Mormon religion, which makes it cooler, it was however written by the lizard men under Salt Lake City, but don't let that stop you from reading it.

RE4 Wii Style

Um, greastest thing ever. I was a little nervous about changing the games mechanics and still being as awesome to play, but fear not, it works, and it is amazing. At first I was a little clunky with the controls, they don't really feel right, you turn like someone in an electronic wheelchair or something, its just feels a little slow compared to the gamecube, but after you play a little bit it becomes a type of second nature a lot like the first version, but the aiming, oh the aiming, is just mind blowing, it is so much smoother and faster!

One more thing about the Wii edition is a completely new side story, you play as Ada and you play the game one step in front of Leon, it explains a lot of things, not really gaps in the story, but just a little background information about some of the main characters, for instance in the game you arrive in a village, somewhere in Europe, Leon shows up and people just start attacking him with no explanation, you soon become overwhelmed with the zombie like villagers, only to be saved the ringing of a church bell, which puts the villagers under a sort of trance and makes them stop what they are doing and head towards the bell. In the game you are just happy they left, and it eludes to the fact that there is something really weird going on with the locals and their religion, so you take that an move on, you just assume it was time for them to go all heaven's gate or something. When you play the new story with Ada you understand that the villagers are just basically attack dogs, that will attack any thing that comes into the village, you are investigating the village so you want it clear, so you ring the bell to clear them out! Ada rings the bell, I thought that was awesome, it is not something you really need to know in the game or crucial to the story arc but it is just cool that the creators are in a sense tying up everything.

and I know most of you have no idea what I am talking about, but for the one or two that do, enjoy

The Hunt for the Skinwalker

I picked up this book because I have some sick and twisted interest in Skinwalker, and when I saw that Joe recommended it, I jumped on it. Once I had the courage too anyway. First of all I have to admit I lost a lot of sleep while reading this book, even now when I hear a noise or I see a light I kinda freak out. I was a little disappointed in the lack of creepy skinwalker stories, but this book did not lack weird tales that a did a number on my tough guy image.

I am a little skeptical though about the ranch, I mean the stories seem a little ridiculous at times, but what interested me most in the book was the theories at the end of the book.

In my opinion all facts aside, just my own thoughts and theories I think the whole ranch is a combination of the conclusions. I do give credit to "Tom Gormom" and his perseverance to win back his ranch, but I also think that had something to do with the continuing appearance and disturbances he wanted them to show themselves and attack the cattle in order for the scientist to conduct their research, I think that most paranormal instances are based on the person willing or wanting something to appear. With that in mind I have also heard that the only way you can see a skinwalker is that you believe in them and have a deep seeded want somewhere in your mind to see one. I think that by giving them that, you in sense feed the flames. I think that idea also translates to the other types of paranormal discussed on the farm.

Contrary to that though are the people who like the Gormans, who move into a place with no intentions of paranormal activity, but I have also think that a presence can stay in the place it was called for so to speak, the discovery channel talks about this a lot in their show "A Haunting" about people moving into places that previous owners had in a sense condemned with their "Black arts" and actions, and the "curses" are just at the location, the beings harass the tenants even if they had no intention or knowledge of the previous tenants. I think that is a part of the problem with the Gormon's ranch, the local Ute tribe wouldn't set foot on the land, and spoke of the land having a lot of activity for many generations, even the previous owners were a little shady with their no digging policy.

I do think of myself as one of those X-files nerds, that think the government usually has it hands in many sinister stews (thanks monarch!) I would assume the government would have an interest the farm with all of activity, and the reasons as to why the government wouldn't be part of the problem are a little weak in this book, they say the government could have taken this land at anytime they wanted, which I say yes too of course they could, but in doing so they have just given validity to the stories, the government would have been bombarded with conspiracy theories that would have lead to FOX reports, which in itself it worth not taking the land. The other reason is that the U.S Government is not one to terrorize its own citizens or harass them, this is kind of funny in its own sense, this government is very self-serving at the moment, so I find it hard to believe it would not harass some local country bumpkins in Utah to get some information.

I did enjoy the talk about inner and outer dimensions, a nice coincidence I had while I was reading this was that I was also reading Slaughterhouse five, and its talks about their being more dimensions that humans just cannot reach without help, I was interested in the effects of the drug DMT on the patients, the idea that you are able to unlock different dimensions inside your head or through meditation is very interesting to me, but I am a nerd so you need to take that into account.

All in all I am no where near finished with my ideas about this book I will need to read it again in order to come to some more solid conclusions, but I would like to hear your thoughts on it Joe, and maybe we can bounce some Duchovny style ideas and theories around, maybe even convince some more people to read it and participate.

P.S I am not some big shot English language guy (as you can tell from that sentence) so bear with me in reading that give me a little slack, unless you are Mr. Strickland (aww yeah reference there)

On a different note

I finished reading, Slaughterhouse Five, that was different. I really enjoyed it, a little hard to follow at times, but I really liked the weird style it was written in, if that is even a style. I heard that a lot of the writing community said Vonnegut was a horrible writer, and I get a sense of that, the book did not flow as smoothly as a Hardy boys mystery but none the less I will be checking out other books by him, because I really liked this book. Breakfast of Champions I believe is next on the list.

Also I watched "The Legend of Bagger Vance" last night, has anyone ever read the book. I really <3 that movie and I would like to read the book unless it sucks.

Oh what joy tomorrow should bring

Resident Evil 4 Wii edition is released tomorrow, I am super excited, that game is by far my favorite video game so far, I am so ready to play it Wii style.

here is a John C Reily clip

Graffiti

I wish I was Kid Acne, he is awesome.

Just a thought

I was lounging back with the sun hitting me in my chair reading slaughterhouse five and pretending this wasn't a run on sentence, listening to Iron and Wine sipping on a Jones soda, (strawberry lime) and I was thinking hey this place isn't too bad, earth, not Rexburg that place sucks bad, like real bad like that giant vacuum cleaner in "spaceballs" bad. Just saying give it a shot it's a pretty good time.

I just stumbled on this like right now

click the link for a pretty sweet song, I saw this guy was winning the vote for Best band at immergutrocken, don't ask me how I come along this information, just listen to the song I think you might like it.

The Artist name is "Friska Vilijor"

Also the "shout out louds" from the same festival have a site with a pretty sweet song called "tonight I have to leave it" I suggest a listen also.

http://www.shoutoutlouds.com/
it plays in the mini player on the website, I had to click the play button for it to work, which I like better than the music that just starts blaring out of a site that damages my mood for the entire day.

SSLYBY

I really like them, Tyrone hooked me up with some of their sweet songs, "I am Warm and Powerful", "Travel Song" are among my favorites.

SSLYBY = Someone still loves you Boris Yeltsin, amazing band name too, based on that alone you should check them out

http://www.myspace.com/boris
You can click the title of this post, that is the link though in case it doesn't work
(best I could do to find a way for you to sample them)

Don't Feel bad if you confuse the picture with Mike Laughead, Adam Borg, and Sawyer from LOST, happened to me too

Summer of reading

If only I could get a personal pan pizza from my summer reading, I went a picked up a copy of Slaughterhouse five, I haven't read any of Vonnegut's work so I am excited to boost up my indie cool status, I picked it up on mistake I thought it was Sargent
Slaughter's how to fight 5 people, but I might come out on top this time.

Thursday, June 14, 2007

I went and picked it up

against my best judgement I went and picked up a copy of the Bane of Joe's book list, The Hunt for the Skinwalker, although I am currently too afraid to pick it up thanks to all the stories I read online about skinwalkers, I am pretty sure I will end up inside an insane-asium in fear, nothing scares me more than the paranormal stuff, other than the movie Stargate, that one scares me too.

1 part awesome, 2 parts sweet, 1/2 cup of Sawyer

I just finished catching up LOST, Wow all I have to say, that is the BEST SHOW I have ever seen. I am so excited about the next season. Hey ladies it's Hurley time, I am still awe struck by the shows finale, so many conclusions and ideas running through my head. I had the biggest smile on my face, I have to admit, when Hurley saved the day, I know he is everyone's favorite person, but man he is awesome! I knew the beach boys had something to do with the island too, those bastards, yeah sucks about Pippen, but you can't win them all, as long as Desmond is alright though, I liked him more anyway brotha.Couldn't you just have had charlie get on the other side of the door with Desmond though and then close the hatch, that was just something that was bothering me. But LOCKE WHAT A DICK! I was about to make him a cripple again, how you gonna make him the bad guy, crazy nutter, LET THEM GO HOME! but we still got three more seasons of awesome. I kinda think Jack looks cooler with a Grizzly Adams beard going on, but he is kind of a dick when he gets his beard/hulk style powers. Lets just say he gets the lady when he has a beard.
Which brings me to this,
What is the only crime punishable if attempted, but not if committed?

Donald of Darko towers

Every time I watch this movie, I start back at square one, nothing brings me closer to a reasonable conclusion I just come up with more questions. On top of that I have no idea how to get anywhere on the website, all that aside though I love this movie, this was the first time I watched the director's cut, which I liked a lot helped with the movie I think. I do wish that I could go see Evil Dead in the movie theater for a couple bucks, now that is something worth building a time machine for. Any thoughts or conclusions on the movie?
If you want to try your hand at the website I have it in the title link thing.

A real mans list

What are your favorite movies that you would never admit to? I mean the ones locked in the vault that your wife, or emo life mate doesn't even know about.

The parent trap (with lindsay lohan)
The Cutting edge
Adventures in Babysitting
Sweet Home Alabama

That is all I can admit without losing all my tough friends

Wanna fight about it?

I manned up and saw Knocked Up, I flew solo and it wasn't as awkward as I imagined, I laughed a lot at the movie, it was pretty amazing. One of the things that stuck out was the theme of babies being good, I mean think about it when was the last time you saw a movie and people were excited about having a baby, or actually wanted one. At the end of the movie I was kinda thinking to myself " sweet I want a baby even if i have to steal it!" I recommend the movie highly but not without any reservations, has a lot of language in it and a couple graphic scenes in it. not for the weak of heart, but this ride can be ridden by the pregnant ladies.

LOST

I am currently trying to catch up on the show LOST so I can form some old school theories that even Egon would be proud of. I am only in season 2 so don't ruin it for me! I did restart with my favorite episode though, the one with Hugo's back story

Bel Canto

I did just run out and pick up a copy of Bel Canto from the library so I am pretty pumped, just to clarify this is because Dylan recommended it,you have no power over me VALERIE!

Sgt. Friday

It is most definatly friday, after class today I think I'm going to brave it and go see "knocked up" SOLO! I have as far as I can remember never seen a movie by myself, it's kind of depressing, but I really want to see this movie so I think I will man up and do it. I have been looking forward to this movie for a while, I love Judd Apatow's work especially the documentary of my life (the 40 year old virgin) "Undeclared," "Anchorman," and yes I enjoyed "Talladega Nights!" This may or may not happen depending on if my tail is tucked between my legs later today, or my testicles drop (fingers crossed, only been waiting for that for like 20 years) We shall see.

Television

My new favorite show right now is Top Gear, it is a british car show, with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May hosting, it is unscripted and amazing, they test drive all the amazing supercars, do challenges, like turn a van into a convertible, make aquatic cars, convert super small cars into limos, it also has a segment where they put a movie/t.v. star in a "reasonably priced car" and time a lap. It really is a funny funny show, you dont really need to be a car buff, if you are just in love with amazing looking cars and british humor.

the link is to a website that has a couple of the seasons on it

Finally

I got a Wii yesterday, finally. I bought Zelda with it too, and I have to say they are both amazing! if you don't want buy one, I highly suggest you at least play one, it truly is something to be praised.

I love the graphic novel series "Fables", the idea and concepts are a little bit contrived, but for some reason I cannot seem to pull myself away. One of the most amazing things about the series though, are the covers. James Jean has won a bunch of awards for his work on the covers. I suggest you check them out on his website, www.jamesjean.com. I am really drawn to the cover of issue #17 for some reason I can't get this image out of my head I am in love with it.
